Let me take some time to introduce myself and tell you a little about the purpose behind this blog. My name is Shira, I am 28 years old and I am in recovery for an eating disorder. I have not used a scale in about six years now.
I started this blog about six years years ago when I decided to get treatment for my eating disorder. I wrote one blog post every single day for the first year that I gave up my scale-from Jan.21, 2013 to Jan.21, 2014.
This blog actually starts on day 7 of this journey, because it’s only on the 7th day of being without my scale that I decided to write this blog.
It was on that 7th day that I could feel myself wanting to go back to my scale so I needed to do something drastic to save myself from going back, and that’s where this blog came in.
I started this blog and continue this blog for two reasons: to continue to help myself and to help others who are struggling like me.
Now, the blog has taken on a new chapter: Hello Life: A Pregnancy Without A Scale.
If you are someone who is battling an eating disorder, this blog is for you.
If you are someone who has ever been at odds with the person starring back at you in the mirror, this blog is for you.
If you are someone who has ever felt insignificant or undeserving of anything short of the best, than this blog is for you.
This blog is for those brave and courageous souls in the world-with or without an eating disorder, who have ever challenged themselves to do something and made the painstaking decision to stick with it and fight as hard as they can to make sure they succeed.
This blog, my fellow fighters, this is for us.
This blog has now been published as a book and can be bought on Amazon.com.
The first month of this journey is available on this blog. If you would like to continue to follow the Hello Life journey, please purchase the book via Amazon, or through our “buy the book” page.
Thank you so much for your love and support.

Here’s to doing whatever it takes! I made that decision a while back and I am so thankful I did. I just started writing about my experience with anorexia..and a long road to healing..I love those words..whatever it takes.
Blessings and keep writing..

Thank you so much!! You too =)
Hi my name is Zoe
I am 18, and I am recovering from anorexia and compulsive exercise .
I really want to get better but I’m finding it so hard to overcome the exercise thoughts after eating.
Is there any chance you could give me any help or advice?
I hope to hear from you x
That’s so amazing that you made the choice to recover. I think recovery is so different for every person, but the best advice I could give you is that every time you have those thoughts, remind yourself that it’s your eating disorder talking, it’s not you . Your stronger than your eating disorder, and one day, you will be free. Feel free to write to me anytime. Sending you strength and hope.
Hi my name is Zoe
I am 18
5ft 10 BMI 15.2
I am recovering from anorexia and compulsive exercise.
I really want to overcome and stop the feeling of wanting to burn everything off afterwards by exercising and by that I don’t mean The Gym, running, purging, laxatives, I just walk everywhere or pace the house or do housework .
I eat 2500 calories a day
I do 2 hours of walking + housework
I really don’t know how much exercise I should be doing or how many calories I should be eating .
I don’t have my periods , I haven’t had them for 3 years now .
Please can you help me ? as i really want to get better but I’m finding it so hard to overcome the exercise thoughts after eating.
I hope to hear from you x
Hi Zoe ,
Thank you for sharing your struggle with me and please know I truly wish you the best on your road to recovery . The most Important advice I can give you is to get the right treatment team in place to help you. For me, that meant a therapist who specializes in eating disorders and a nutrionist who also specializes in eating disorders and a primary care physician to treat any medical problems you may be having. You can visit edreferral.com and it helps finding a treatment in your area. Sending you strength and hope.
Nice to meet you 🙂 I am also a journalism major and suffer from an ed. I hope, one day, when I’m fully recovered I can use it to help other girls . A year without a scale, is amazing !
Hi ! It’s so nice to meet you too ! And it’s even more amazing that your a journalism major ! There’s not enough of us in the world huh ? Thank you for becoming part of this journey and sending you hope and strength for your recovery ❤️❤️❤️
I love your blog. I can relate to A LOT of your posts since I am now a few months out of the hospital for my eating disorder. Challenges are always being thrown our way and by confronting those challenges rather than letting ED dominate is what moves us one step closer to being ED FREE!! It’s extremely difficult work so I truly commend you for being such a strong fighter.
Hi Julia !
Thank you so much for this beautiful comment and that’s so incredible your also on the path to recovery from an ED. Congratulations on being such a strong fighter for these months and i hope strength and hope find you everyday of your journey. Thank you again for such an encouraging and inspiring comment 🙂
This is such an amazing idea. I struggle big time with the scale. If the number goes up I am miserable. If the number goes down I feel terrible. If the number is the same I feel awful. You just can’t win!! I would love to try a year without a scale. I have been reading some of your past posts and I love your blog!
Thank you so much Kim! Being without that number for almost a year now has been the most difficult experience of my life so far, but also has lead me to a kind of freedom I never knew existed. Thank you for your kind and uplifting words and thank you for joining our journey ❤
